Markets
SMARTCROWD is almost exclusively about Elections and Politics right now. We intend to broaden our horizons soon to cover certain major business topics and some major sports events that attract international coverage.
ContentRegular index calculations and relevant news coverage for the
2008 Presidential Election are available on the site. The indices, which we've termed the Consensus Index ratings, are updated at least biweekly, and often weekly. They are a strong indicator of sentiment of prediction market users.
Index and spread calculations can by very useful when many prediction markets are trading the same contracts; giving a more accurate reflection about what's happening across each of the underlying markets covered.
Spread calculations have also been added to the site.Spread data helps to determine how closely prices in the different markets that make up an index are correlated. The lower the spread the tighter the price correlation; the wider the spread, the greater the pricing anomoly.
A news clip box now provides access to relevant articles and blogs on the web. The latest 10 articles can be accessed directly from the widget; earlier articles can be accessed by clicking the "read more" link.

Email broadcast. Q. Is there any point in having an email distribution list to push information, when readers can subscribe for instantaneous updates via RSS feed readers? Social Networking
We've added social networking access to
Facebook and
Others Online. Both promise to add real value to prediction market events; creating new relationships and distribution of SMARTCROWD content. We're excited about the potential of using these forums to raise awareness of prediction markets and SMARTCROWD.
Frequency
What's the right frequency for a blog like SMARTCROWD? Daily, weekly, or just when quality news and/or events occur? We've been exceptionally sporadic during the first 12 months, though we hope to establish a regular pattern in 2008.
